The right to protest and the Conservative steamroller

Politicians who are bereft of ideas can always rely on criminal justice policy to fill their time. In 1994, John Major’s enervated, post-Thatcherite government penned the now infamous Criminal Justice and Public Order Act. The act is infamous…

Our blog is intended to provide a platform for CULA members and the wider liberal community to express their opinions, views and concerns related to politics; past, present or future. By providing this platform, we encourage all members to open debate to the topics they are most passionate about. The views posted to our website should not be taken to represent the views of the editorial team, CULA, Liberal Democrats or University of Cambridge.

One of the main pillars of liberty is free speech. As liberals it is our duty to uphold this at our university, with minimal editorial control beyond formatting, and our hope is that this blog assists in this endeavour. We draw the line at any submissions that cause to single out individuals or cause harm in anyway, noting that this is neither conductive to debate nor in line with our values. Anything included in the blog is at the editor’s discretion.

We shall accept blog submissions of approx. 500-1500 words from members in the form of articles, opinion pieces or series of commentary. We welcome all submissions, even those topical or controversial in nature. Please email submissions to our Communications Officer Sarah Anderson (sa2024@cam.ac.uk).
